Driving Innovation in Automotive Electronics

Welcome to LAB Electronics, your trusted source for cutting-edge automotive electronics solutions. Founded by Lee Alan Bourgeois (LAB), a highly experienced automotive electrician with over three decades of expertise in New South Wales, Australia, our journey has been one of evolution and innovation.

Our Story: From Humble Beginnings to Innovation Pioneers

LAB Electronics Pty Ltd embarked on its journey in 1986, not as the micro-manufacturer of aftermarket automotive electronics we are today, but as a response to market demand and LAB’s visionary outlook. It all started in 1985 when LAB foresaw the need for more affordable alternatives to replace failing automotive electronics. This vision led to the development of specialised test equipment for BMW electronic units, which paved the way for our entry into the industry.

In 1986, LAB Electronics began its operations by offering reconditioned BMW electronic units, and by 1987, we introduced Service Interval resetting tools. The journey didn’t stop there; in 1990, we expanded our offerings to include selected electronics from Land Rover and Jaguar. However, in 1999, we made a strategic decision to exclusively focus on Land Rover electronics, discontinuing the reconditioning of other brands’ units.

Innovation and Patents: Shaping the Future

Our commitment to innovation led us to embark on significant research and development projects. In 2003, we initiated the creation of ROVAIR and other Land Rover diagnostic tools. This dedication resulted in the patenting of ROVAIR in 2004 and its subsequent production. The same year witnessed the birth of MOBI-LIZE, a solution to immobilisation issues with GEMS engine management, and the supply of data connectors, resolving the replacement dilemma for damaged connectors in all vehicles.

2005 was a pivotal year for us, marked by the invention of PulseShunt and its successor, PulseBusta, designed to connect trailers with LED lighting to the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport seamlessly. We also introduced no-drill aerial mounting brackets for these vehicles, further exemplifying our problem-solving capabilities.

Adapting to Change: A Forward-Thinking Approach

The automotive industry is no stranger to constant change, and neither are we. In 2006, recognising the escalating complexity and decreased repair viability of automotive electronic units, we decided to discontinue repair services.

A Semi-Retirement Dedicated to Innovation

In 2009, LAB chose a path of semi-retirement in the picturesque Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Here, we continue to pursue our passion for innovation, developing new products and enhancing existing ones. While we may not be actively working on motor vehicles anymore, we remain committed to staying at the forefront of industry changes and creating groundbreaking solutions.
