Trailers with flashing LED indicators connected to  Discovery 3 or Range Rover Sport

Owners of both the Discovery 3 and the Range Rover Sport have experienced problems with trailers that have Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) as turn signal indicators as the LEDs will flash repeatedly when they are not otherwise illuminated and their vehicles will not recognise that a trailer is connected.

With just a push of the button PulseShunt will stop the lamp check pulses from flashing your trailers turn signal LEDs and allow the trailer to be recognised by the Central Junction Box (CJB).   Another push of the button returns the lamp check system for the trailer back to normal.  Anytime that you do not have your LED trailer connected the green LED should be on.  Some 'Dummy loads' or 'load simulators' may enable the CJB to recognize that a trailer is connected but they will not stop the pulsing of the LEDs in the trailer's turn signal indicators.

There is no fault with either the vehicle or the trailer

The Discovery 3 and the Range Rover Sport are using newly developed bulb check technology to cure a problem that plague many older vehicles with bulb check.  When electrical connections in the vehicle get old and tired spurious bulb fail warnings do occur even when the bulbs are working.  This new technology aims to eliminate or at least reduce these spurious warnings when the vehicles get older.  Land Rover is manufacturing these vehicles with a pulsed lamp check function in the vehicle external lighting system.  In operation this type of lamp check function is continually emitting short voltage pulses on the wires to various lamps in the vehicle and trailer lighting systems whenever the CJB is awake.  The CJB is awake while the vehicle is being driven and for up to 16 minutes after the vehicle has stopped and the ignition key removed.  It will be re-awakened when the vehicle is unlocked, a door, the tailgate or bonnet are opened as well as when the air suspension periodically self-levels.

The standard PulseShunt is designed for normal every day use when towing a trailer.  It has not been designed for use with emergency, road works, road testing or other vehicles where the indicators or hazard lights are constantly in use for prolonged periods of time.   Please enquire about the heavy-duty model for these applications.

PulseShunt is made in Australia and has a 5-year guarantee.
